An early morning, multi-vehicle, highway crash on Interstate 295 Tuesday has left one person dead and another with moderate injuries, as New Jersey State Police (NJSP) continue to investigate.

NJSP Trooper Charles Marchan said authorities responded to the scene of an accident at milepost 35.6 on I-295 in Cherry Hill at 5:30 a.m. August 17.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Honda was traveling south on I-295 when it left the roadway and struck a guardrail. The crash left the Honda disabled in the center southbound lane, but facing northbound.

That’s when it was struck head-on by a Chevrolet passenger van traveling south on I-295. The collision ejected the driver from the Honda, and that person was subsequently struck by the driver of a Toyota, and killed. A southbound Ford also subsequently struck the same person.

The identity of the Honda driver has not been released by authorities pending identification and notification of next of kin, Marchan said.

The Chevrolet driver suffered moderate injuries as a result of colliding with the Honda. The drivers of the Toyota and Ford were unharmed physically in the incident.

The crash remains under investigation. Stick with NJ Pen for updates.
