UPDATE: County Says ‘This Kind of Fire Can Never Happen Again’, Recycler Blames Li-Ion Batteries
Camden City and County government officials vow to hold EMR Metal Recycling accountable after the latest fire in its scrapyard sent thick columns of smoke across the region Friday and Saturday. The company believes the fire was started by a litihum-ion battery that was delivered there against its policies.
The state alleges that thieves targeted luxury vehicles, and fenced them in New York City to ship to buyers in West Africa. The case involved 43 vehicles valued at $3.6 million.
A quickly moving fire dealt significant damage to a home on Spruce Street Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters from nine area companies responded in full force to contain the blaze.
