Connecting Past to Present: Trailblazing Haddonfield Schoolteacher Joyce Gilchrist Pierce

For 38 years, Joyce Gilchrist Pierce was the only Black teacher in the Haddonfield School District, the second ever hired there, and the first to teach in an integrated setting. But the road to her career there wasn't short of adversity. Pierce's story is one of several personal histories that is being explored as Haddonfield works to uncover more of its cultural past.
