UPDATE (January 12, 2021): Subsequent to an autopsy conducted today, a medical examiner ruled that an Audubon couple died in a murder-suicide.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Jane Venable, 64, was shot multiple times in a homicide. Her husband, Kevin Venable, 63, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound that was ruled a suicide.

Detectives were investigating the circumstances around their deaths after the couple was found in their home in the unit block of Oakland Avenue January 11.

Jane Venable, 63, was found dead “from visible injuries,” and Kevin Venable, 63, was found “dead from a gunshot wound,” according to a statement from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO).

Authorities had been called to their home in the unit block of Oakland Avenue around 1 p.m. January 11 after a witness who hadn’t heard from the couple since Saturday “told officers they went to the home to conduct a welfare check,” the CCPO noted.

“Detectives are investigating the events that led up to the deaths, but said there is no active threat to the community,” the agency said.

Anyone with information is asked to call CCPO Det. Kevin Courtney (856-397-6770), Audubon Police Det. Justin Tracy (856-547-1171), or to e-mail ccpotips@ccprosecutor.org.
