After a lengthy investigation, Oaklyn police have charged an 18-year-old Deptford Township woman in a July 4 hit-and-run that left a 26-year-old Haddon Township woman hospitalized with serious injuries.

Danielle A. Smith faces criminal charges for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with serious bodily injury as well as motor vehicle summonses for leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, failure to report an accident, and careless driving.

Police say Smith was alone when she allegedly fled the scene of an accident outside the Oaklyn Wawa around 1 a.m. on the Fourth of July. She was released on her own recognizance with a superior court date.

According to a statement from Oaklyn Police the victim is still hospitalized, “but is expected to fully recover.” Detectives Paul Mason and Kyle Davis led the investigation.

All persons charged with a crime are innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. An arrest is not a conviction.
